By Jan Frans Verhas ( 1834-1896). Provenance: family estate ( daughter) of the painter. This is a portrait of the painter’s son, George Verhas, as a baby with his dog. Another painting with the same child and dog was on the art market in the past; this painting is the last jpg in this listing. The child is older ( sitting up), but in the same interior and with the same dog. On the reverse: a label stating: ( in French) ” I hereby declare that this painting was made by Jan Verhas. Gisbert Combaz. ” Gisbert Combaz ( 1869-1941) was the son in law of Jan Verhas, he married the daughter Marthe Verhas in 1895. Gisbert Combaz is a highly listed painter too. The painting is signed lower right ” Jan Verhas”.
